The pleasure of the sea and mountain horizons is the protagonist today in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia. Towns in the Barcelona area are lucky enough to have both beaches and mountainous areas in the same municipality.
The weather conditions of the Gavà beach, with more than 3,500 hours of sunshine per year, mean that every summer more than two million bathers visit its coastline, where we find the Gavà Mar neighborhood, from where this snapshot was taken looking towards the Garraf massif.
This massif occupies a triangular area between the Llobregat valley, the Penedès depression and the Mediterranean, constituting a set of low mountains, with maximum heights around 600 meters.
The coastal area of ??Gavà, 4 km away, also has a 400-meter-wide pine forest that reaches the seafront. Between the coast and the urban area are the irrigated fields, located in the area of ??the municipality belonging to the Llobregat delta.
But, Gavà also enjoys an important mountain area, specifically, a third part of the municipality belongs to the natural park of Garraf.
The area of ??Bruguers stands out, 3 kilometers from the town center and 254 meters above sea level, where the Virgin Mary’s hermitage, originally from the 12th century, is located. And also the ruins of the castle of Eramprunyà, documented already in the 10th century.
In the mountain area, La Sentiu stands out, a neighborhood and unique setting with very attractive forest paths, farmhouses and a leisure area that has a restaurant.
