The PP will vote in favor of its senator Manuel Baltar being tried by the Supreme Court for a crime against road safety for allegedly driving at 215 kilometers per hour, according to party sources, so that he will lose his parliamentary immunity.

This Wednesday, behind closed doors, the Requests Commission met in the Senate in a session that Baltar ultimately did not attend, who had the option of attending to be heard at a hearing, although it was not mandatory. However, Baltar has sent a letter in which he asks to continue with the process.

The commission has appointed the working group that will be in charge of preparing the report on the Supreme Court’s request for the Senate to allow criminal proceedings against Baltar.

This working group now has a maximum period of 30 days to prepare the report and issue an opinion, according to Senate regulations. The forecast is that the presentation will meet on April 2 and the Requests Commission on April 9 to approve the opinion and then submit it to the full Senate, where it will be debated and approved in a secret point within the planned agenda.

If the request is finally granted and Baltar’s indictment becomes final, the Senate may agree by absolute majority to temporarily suspend his status as senator.

According to the Civil Guard, Baltar traveled in April of last year at 215 kilometers per hour on a section limited to a maximum of 120 on the A-52 highway, in the Zamora region of Sanabria.
