An eight-year-old boy drowned this Sunday, July 9, in the Casetas municipal swimming pool, in the Aguas Claras Municipal Sports Center, in Zaragoza. The center will remain closed for security reasons for the next few hours and the Civil Guard has already opened an investigation to clarify the causes of the event.
The events occurred around 2:50 p.m., as reported by the Zaragoza City Council. The minor was in one of the small pools and was in the facilities with his relatives.
The lifeguard at the center immediately removed the child, after being notified by a user who noticed that he had an incident, and performed the appropriate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques on him, activating the protocol and notifying the health services. Although he has tried to recover his constants for 45 minutes, he has failed to revive him.
The municipal councilor for Citizen Participation and the Interior Regime, Alfonso Mendoza, and the Councilor for Sports, Félix Brocate, have traveled to the Aguas Claras CDM to accompany the family.
Mendoza has stressed that the lifeguard has acted “immediately” and the Health Emergency Protocol has been activated, notifying the medical services of the health center in the Casetas neighborhood. The autopsy will determine what have been the causes that have caused the death of the child.
“The victim’s family resides in Casetas, although they are not from our country, so from the Mayor’s Office we have made ourselves available with the procedures, due to the existing difficulties with the language,” explained the municipal councilor.
In addition, the Zaragoza City Council will offer psychological assistance to the family and collaboration in the work of repatriating the body.
