Twitch has taken advantage of its European congress located in Paris, the TwitchCon 2023 held this past weekend, to announce different news for its popular streaming platform. Some of the updates will be implemented throughout this year and are aimed at both content creators and consumer users.
One of the most outstanding novelties is the so-called Discovery Feed, a tool designed for mobile devices and similar to Tik Tok in that users can move through vertical scrolling between different random clips. “Rather than just getting viewers to watch more clips, we want them to watch more streams. We will choose the clips based on the probability that they attract new viewers to the channels ”, they explain from the company.
In relation to other social networks, they have commented that in the coming months they will incorporate a “stories” service in the Instagram or Snapchat style on Twitch. In this case, the content creator will be able to decide with whom they share their stories, either with all their followers or only with their subscribers.
They have also introduced the “Chat Countdown Timer”, a new tool by which to postpone or advance an upcoming announcement. With this option, Twitch wants to give content creators more control and “help streamers know when an ad break is about to run.” In addition, in August they will enable the option to export clips directly to Tik Tok and Clip Editor will have a mobile version.
Also in August, although initially only for some specific streamers, the “Guest Star” feature will be added. Basically, it is a joint transmission service, similar to a video call, that will allow you to join up to 5 streamers who are live.
As regards the alerts included in the live broadcasts, the company also announced different updates. Among them, a system of unlocking channel points, the randomization of alerts or the customization of gestures.
Twitch has shown all these novelties as part of its opening ceremony for TwitchCon Paris 2023, the third edition of the European event. During the presentation, the company owned by Amazon also exhibited different data regarding the evolution of the platform. As they explained, in 2022 a total of 1,200 million hours were viewed and the number of people who earn money with Twitch has grown by 33% since last year.
