Section 5 of the contentious administrative chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has confirmed that three schools in Catalonia must maintain 25% of the classes in Spanish in one of their classrooms.

In total, the court has ruled on the resources of five centers. In three of them, it has dismissed the requests of the families who wanted the educational center’s language project to be annulled, while in two other cases the judges have requested additional information before making a decision. Yes, it will be mandatory to teach in Spanish some core signature that is not linguistic, for which reason it partially upholds the petition of the plaintiff, “in the sense that it considers that it has the right for the school to provide an effective and balanced education in the Spanish language”.

Among the cases that the court has studied is that of the Turó del Drac school in Canet de Mar, where this percentage had already been imposed in a precautionary manner at the end of 2021 in a group at the request of a family, which generated outrage among the majority of parents in that classroom and provoked mobilizations in defense of Catalan.

The group of families from the center of Canet who denounced “the attack on the Catalan” hopes that the sentence handed down soon by the Constitutional Court will be favorable to them.
