In an increasingly aging society like ours, the Dependency Law came into force to guarantee decent care for the dependent population. This rule establishes the right of access to care for the 2 million dependent people in Spain under equal conditions and regardless of their purchasing power. In relation to this right, the types of benefits and services that these people can access have been regulated by Royal Decree.
Dependent people are those who, due to age, illness or accident, have some inability to function in the activities of daily living and therefore require some type of assistance to carry them out. In order to access aid from the System for Autonomy and Dependency Care (SAAD), a team of professionals from the corresponding body of the autonomous community or the social services of a town hall must assess the degree of dependency suffered by the potential beneficiary.

On the other hand, the economic benefits must be associated with the contracting of a necessary service to cover the basic needs of the dependent, and for their allocation and amount, their income levels will be taken into account:
When requesting these benefits, the corresponding social services will require personal, financial and medical documentation of the dependent person.
