Neither Madrid, nor Rome, nor Paris… Apparently, the most foodie destination in Europe is Barcelona. This is stated by the Stadista data analysis portal, which, in order to carry out the new report and discover in which city on our continent the best food is eaten, has relied on the data provided by travelers who use the Booking.com portal.
Prague and Lisbon also occupy prominent positions in this culinary race, specifically the second and third place in the ranking. They are followed by Madrid, in fourth place, and Paris in fifth.
After the top 5, other European cities appear: Cravovia (6), Budapest (7), Porto (8), Berlin (9) and Athens (10). It is striking that no Italian city appears in the list, usually visited for its gastronomy.
The reasons why Barcelona has become the best ‘foodie’ destination in Europe could have to do with its culinary offer, which is wide and combines classic cuisine with creative cuisine, from a very affordable range to haute cuisine restaurants (some renowned among the best on the planet).
In addition, the municipal markets are one of the characteristics of the Catalan capital and places highly visited by tourists, who take the opportunity to stroll or do some shopping. In recent years, the offer of wine bars and specialized shops has also expanded.
