Alba Silva has been going through a roller coaster of emotions in recent weeks. The young journalist has been day and night by the side of her husband, Sergio Rico, hospitalized since May 28 at the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville. Since then, she has provided daily updates on her condition to the dozens of journalists who came to the medical center. But it’s not the first time Silva has had to deal with hospitals.
Eight months ago, specifically on January 3, the communicator lost a close friend, the writer Elena Huelva. Diagnosed at the age of 16 with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare cancer that affects the bones and biological tissue, the Sevillian woman became a well-known figure on social networks thanks to the disclosure of her condition. Silva rescued this Friday morning the letter that she wrote to him before she passed away, and that has helped her during the recovery of her husband.
“More than eight months ago I wrote this comment to Elena because her story moved me. Today one of you liked it. And it reminded me of it. I suppose she also taught me a little to believe and hope when I did.” I’ve needed. Like all those people who with their story of overcoming help us in some way. It’s the beauty of social networks and sharing your story. Even if some people don’t understand it. Thank you Elena for being a ray of hope for everyone even when you’re not there”, wrote Silva.
“Thank you for giving us all this lesson in life, for making us appreciate even more what goes by quickly without realizing it, life, sometimes, complaining about insignificant things… You are brave, for your way of facing the life like a true warrior clinging to it, your smile has made us believe forever in hope. I admire you since I knew of your existence. Thank you for teaching me so much without even knowing me. Sending you a giant kiss,” she originally posted.
Despite the heartfelt loss at the beginning of the year, the situation with Sergio Rico is taking a different path. At the beginning of July, the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper was transferred to the plant, after having regained consciousness several days earlier. He was scheduled to be discharged from the hospital two weeks ago, but the doctors decided to wait to carry out more tests. A wise decision, since yesterday Thursday the goalkeeper underwent surgery for a brain aneurysm.
It was a quick and simple operation, without major complications, and it allowed Rico to return to the plant around noon, a rarity in this type of case. In the morning, Silva showed his confidence in the medical team before a reporter from Europa Press: “We have a lot of trust in the professionals from Virgen del Rocío and, well, I’m sure he’s going to be fine. The doctors have told us that everything is going to be fine and everyone is waiting for that”.
