Spain begins a third heat wave. This Monday, August 7, temperatures will rise, being significantly high in the southwest quadrant of the peninsula and in the south of Galicia. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has also warned of the high risk of fires throughout the Iberian Peninsula.

The heat wave will be triggered by a flow of warm and dry air from the south, which will enter the Iberian Peninsula from North Africa. This air mass will cause a further increase in temperatures in the affected areas.

There are communities that are on orange warning due to these high temperatures, such as Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura, although southern areas of the Andalusian community will experience a slight decrease.

Galicia and the Community of Madrid will be in yellow, according to Aemet forecasts. In the rest of the peninsula, temperatures will continue to rise, and in the Canary Islands there will be no changes. The nocturnal ones will descend in the peninsular northern third.

It could rain in Catalonia and in the Valencian Community, although these precipitations are expected to be weak. The area of ??the Strait, Melilla, north of the Canary Islands, and north of Galicia, the Cantabrian area and the Balearic Islands, where cloudy intervals may occur. The rest of the territory is expected to present a clear sky

The State Meteorological Agency indicates that the wind will also be present on this day. It will blow from the northern component in the northern third of the peninsula and in the east of the Balearic and Canary Islands. Strong gusts of wind will blow on the coast of Galicia and the Ampurdán. In addition, the coast of Mallorca, Menorca and Girona will also be on yellow alert due to waves.

According to the EFI index, which quantifies the rarity of an extreme phenomenon, the temperatures during this third heat wave “will be very unusual in a good part of the Peninsula, especially on Wednesday; on Thursday they will be especially unusual in the eastern third.” as indicated by the Aemet.

In addition, the State Meteorological Agency stresses that “it cannot be ruled out that temperature records can be broken in some locations”.
