Rescue operation successful. The firefighters of the Community of Madrid, through the special high-altitude rescue group, assisted a 25-year-old mountaineer last night very close to the summit of Cabeza de Hierro Mayor, in the mountains of Madrid, explains Luis Serrano, spokesperson for the emergency services of the Community of Madrid.

The mountaineer himself had communicated by telephone through the AML system with the emergency services “so his location was very precise.”

It was almost 2,100 meters high and there was a lot of snow and blizzard. The firefighters accessed the La Pedriza slope by helicopter as far as they could and then had to continue on foot until they found the exact point where the missing man was.

During the more than five hours that the operation lasted (from 5 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.), they kept in contact with him by telephone. After the firefighters reached the place where he was with considerable difficulty, they topped Cabezas and descended with the lost man, helped by snowshoes, to the PingarrĂ³n shelter. “There a nurse from Summa 112 verified that the mountaineer was fine, although very tired,” comments the emergency spokesperson for the Community of Madrid.
