Meritxell Batet, president of the Congress for the last four years, has confirmed that she will not seek re-election, just as the PSOE approaches the negotiation to agree on the composition of the Bureau. The PSC candidate for the general election – with a list that won 19 seats – had already informed the top socialist leaders of her intention not to run for re-election after a complicated legislature. For now, he will keep his seat and open reflection on his political future. Batet pointed out yesterday, as communicated from his environment, that “it has been a great honor to have carried out this responsibility”. And he showed his “enormous gratitude for all the support he has received in recent years”. Also, she was convinced that “a progressive majority will be formed presided over by a socialist candidate that will allow the great progress achieved this legislature to continue”. The leader of the PSC, who was also Minister of Territorial Policy, had informed about her intention not to run after a complex presidency, which began with the management of the pandemic. The removal of the seat of the deputy of Unides Podemos Alberto RodrÃguez was also a particularly difficult moment. The PSOE is currently thinking of the name of Félix Bolaños, until now Minister of the Presidency, to preside over the third institution of the State.
Batet resigns to preside over Congress again
