The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested three men, one of them a minor, as responsible for the attack on the coach of Unió Esportiva la Jonquera, Arnau Liersa, in the youth match last March 17 in Castelló d’Empúries (Alt Emporda). The three arrested are the delegate of the rival team, Empuriabrava, his son who is a minor and a 49-year-old fan who jumped onto the field.
The police officers carried out the relevant investigations with the video cameras on the football field and determined that Liersa’s version matched the images. It all ended with the arrest of the 42-year-old delegate, his youngest son and the 49-year-old fan who jumped onto the field.
The adults will be brought into custody when the judge requires them, while the minor will do so once the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office requests it. “We want to express our deep discomfort, after our coach was brutally attacked while leading the youth team,” the UE la Jonquera said in a statement.
The club also detailed that Liersa received blows “to the ribs, head and other parts of the body.” The coach had to be taken by ambulance to the Figueres hospital.
