A fire has calcined the second floor of a block with 3 floors plus a ground floor at number 4 Calle Mart in the Mariola neighborhood of Lleida.
According to the Firefighters, the call occurred shortly before eight-thirty in the morning and it was necessary to treat five people. Other neighbors have confined themselves to their homes due to the spread of smoke.
In the burned house there was a large amount of combustible material that has made the work of the Firefighters difficult, who have traveled to the scene with nine crews.
To put out the flames they have used a ladder truck and the smoke has also affected the third floor.
The mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, explained that the fire “seems to have been intentional”. Two of the people affected are supposed to have been the perpetrators of the fire, they are in custody.”
“According to the first sources of information, it seems that there are two people who wanted to access the apartment and those who were there would not have let them, they have been detained among other things because they had made threats precisely to set fire to the building as in the end,” has pointed out.
The mayor has advanced that the building will be demolished this Thursday, he has added that this block had an open file in the City Council by urban discipline and has recognized that the City Council does not know how many people live in the block and how many homes are occupied.
“In principle it seems that there are seven family units, we are trying to clarify their legal relationship with the ownership of the property,” he stated.
Larrosa has advanced, in statements to the media, that next week, when he meets with the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, he will propose an immediate performance in La Mariola.
“This has been the turning point. There is no turning back in the transformation of the neighborhood, make-up actions are not worth it, forceful physical and social transformation actions have to be carried out with the support of other administrations. La Mariola cannot wait any longer” , he stated.
