The MTV Video Music Awards rolled out the pink carpet on Monday at the Prudential Center in Newark (New Jersey) to welcome the biggest international stars of the music scene. It is one of the most anticipated galas of the year and the anteroom is one of the most extravagant in the industry.

Transparencies, extreme openings and, of course, a lot of glitter in evening dresses were the protagonists of a photocall in which Shakira’s children completely grabbed the media spotlight. Milan (11) and Sasha (9) posed with the artist from Barranquilla wearing matching outfits and, like their mother, Versace. On social networks, critical voices with the artist did not wait to expose the minors, first for their participation in the single Acróstico and now at the event, in the face of the media war that has caused their break with Gerard Piqué, then, in addition, that the singer herself retracted her ex-partner to let them participate in a Twitch event. “Thank you for encouraging me and making me believe that mom can,” said Shakira on stage after collecting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Lifetime Achievement Award and performing one of the most applauded performances of the night

In awards with a clear female accent, Taylor Swift was crowned as the big winner, as she received nine awards, including artist of the year. The singer also conquered the red carpet in a design, like the Columbian, by Versace, black and with a large opening on one leg. In the same vein, Demi Lovato rocked a leather ensemble and a coat with exaggerated shoulder pads from US breakout label Buerlangma. Doja Cat, meanwhile, took her costume skills to a whole new level and wore a dress, if you can call it that, that emulated a spider web.

Other artists, such as Selena Gomez, decided to play it safe with a renowned firm, that of Oscar de la Renta, with a spectacular red design inspired by the shape of a climbing plant.

But if there is one design that did not go unnoticed, it was that of Nicki Minaj. The artist, who has called herself Barbie on social media, after participating in the soundtrack of Greta Gerwig’s acclaimed film about the doll, stood in the anteroom of the awards dressed bridal, with a pink lace-up design by Dolce and Gabbana and a romantic veil in the same shade.
