A Talgo train derailed this morning on the Rodalies R2 Sud line as it passed through Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona). The vehicle was heading towards the railway company’s workshops in the capital of Garraf, so at the time it left the track it was not transporting passengers.

As reported by Renfe, this incident is causing significant delays on the R2 Sud line, since “the operational capacity at the Vilanova i la Geltrú station” has had to be restricted. Some trains on that line have turned around in Sitges to continue operating.

Technicians from Adif and Renfe have already traveled to the site of the derailment. They are working to recover normality in service as soon as possible. According to initial forecasts, the incident should be resolved this morning.
