The Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia has confirmed the existence of an earthquake of magnitude 2.5 on the Maresme coast, with no reported injuries or material damage.
The earthquake occurred at 1:15 p.m., in the towns of Mataró and Caldes d’Estrac, the main epicenters, but it was also noticeable in neighboring towns such as Vilassar and Arenys de Mar.
The location of the epicenter of the earthquake was located at 13:15:03 hours at a depth of 0 km at latitude: 41.59º N and Longitude: 2.5º.
Social networks have begun to fill with comments about the earthquake. “We just noticed an earthquake in Mataró. Has anyone else noticed it?” commented a user on X (formerly Twitter).
The Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC) recorded last March an earthquake with similar characteristics, reaching a magnitude of 2.7 degrees and also in the Catalan region of Maresme (Barcelona), with an epicenter in the town of Arenys de Mar. On that occasion, no damage was reported in any of the localities in the area either.
Civil Protection and the aforementioned institute have asked on social networks that people who have perceived the earthquake fill out a survey posted on their website to help study these phenomena.
