The Mossos d’Esquadra arrested eleven Moroccan women in Lleida on Thursday afternoon for allegedly pretending to be victims of sexist violence to regularize their situation in Spain and obtain aid.
The arrests occurred in a raid in which more than half a dozen searches were carried out, most of them in homes in the Barri Antic in which a man was also arrested, according to the newspaper Segre and confirmed by the Mossos d’ Squad
The detainees are investigated for false reporting, simulation of a crime, falsehood, favoring illegal immigration and membership in a criminal organization.
The raid, in which members of Citizen Security and ARRO also participated, focused on Cavallers, Sant Andreu, Joan Baget and Mart streets. Participation of several police officers who searched the arrested women.
The operation, carried out by the Segrià-Pla-Les Garrigues Investigation Unit (UI), remains open and new arrests are not ruled out.
The women allegedly paid drug addicts and troubled men in exchange for simulating attacks on the street.
