Just a couple of months have passed since Ssangyong gave the first details of its new SUV model, baptized as Torres and which comes to cover the gap between Korando and Rexton. It is a completely new model, now on sale, which arrives with a lot of commercial ambition, based on a very favorable price/product relationship.
The Korean brand assures that the Torres is an SUV-D car at the price of an SUV-C. That is, it offers a higher-echelon model, at very competitive rates. Four solutions are offered for the acquisition of a Torres: the standard purchase starts at 31,000 euros, which includes a discount of 3,000 euros. The leasing option (48 months and 10,000 km per year) requires a down payment of 3,000 euros and installments -without VAT- of 474 euros per month.
It is possible to choose the Multi-option, with an entrance fee of 7,150 euros and installments of 249.5 euros. Finally, the Torres can be purchased financed, now with a discount of 5,200 euros. In that case, the final price is 28,800 euros, a very attractive figure if you take into account the characteristics and equipment of the vehicle. In all cases, an additional discount of 1,000 euros is applied to customers who exchange a Ssangyong.
Aside from the prices, the Korean brand has released all the details of the Torres range. There are three finishes called Trend, Life and Adventure. The standard equipment provision is very complete from the first step Train, with elements such as dual-zone automatic climate control, 12.5-inch digital instrument panel, automatic switching on of lights and wipers, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera , infotainment system with 9-inch screen, etc.
The Life trim adds a heated steering wheel, two USB ports in the rear seats, keyless entry and start system, imitation leather seats, heated front seats, 18-inch wheels and tires, LED fog lights, blind spot monitoring, warning system rear traffic and double floor in the trunk. If you opt for the automatic transmission, it also has adaptive cruise control and wireless charging.
Finally, the Adventure trim has connectable 4×4 traction, electric tailgate, electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, 20-inch wheels, emergency spare wheel and knee airbag.
The Torres is powered by a 1.5 GDI Turbo gasoline engine with ISG, four-cylinder, with a power of 163 HP at 5,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 280 Nm, available from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm. The WLTP approved average consumption is 7.9 liters/100 km and can be associated with a 6-speed manual transmission, or a 6-speed automatic transmission, the latter being standard on the Adventure 4×4. In 2024 it will be the turn of a 100% electric version.
Ssangyong also offers an LPG version, capable of running either on gasoline or liquefied petroleum gas. It has a combined range of up to 1,200 km, without loss of power over the vehicle’s original performance. In this case, enjoying the advantages derived from the DGT ECO badge has a price of 2,750 additional euros.
The Torres has a length of 4.70 m, width of 1.89 m, height of 1.71 m and wheelbase of 2.68 m. The aesthetics, full of authenticity and emotion, are called to be one of the great arguments for its success. Ssangyong defines it as a robust but contemporary style. The truth is that, in this section, it marks interesting differences compared to its competitors, among which a widened C-pillar that extends towards the roof stands out.
Safety is a well-resolved section thanks to the Ssangyong SASS Advanced Safety System that includes automatic emergency braking system, lane departure warning system, lane keeping system, front vehicle advance warning system, warning system fatigue or safety distance warning system. The Adventure trim adds intelligent adaptive cruise control and these technologies allow for an autonomous driving level of 2.5.
