The next Euro Cup will be played entirely in Germany, which has allowed the Bavarian team to have a guaranteed spot as host. Of the other 23 places that are granted for the event that will be held in 2024, seven of them already have an owner: France, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Scotland, Turkey and Austria. So there are still 16 in the running. In the absence of the matches that must be played throughout the day today, there are several teams such as England, Netherlands, Slovenia, Denmark, Hungary, Romania, Switzerland and Slovakia, about to achieve it.
Twenty teams will emerge from the qualifying group stage, the first two from each group, which are being disputed, will qualify and the remaining three places will come from the repechage playoff, with teams that have earned their place through the Nations League.
In group A Spain and Scotland are already classified. France is also in B and the Dutch team continues to depend on itself after beating Greece 0-1, thanks to a penalty goal from Virgil van Dijk. In group C equality is maximum. If England wins its match against Italy it will have a foot and a half in the European Championship. If the transalpines do not win, they will have to play for qualification against Ukraine.
Turkey is classified in group D and Wales and Croatia will compete for the other place. The Balkans’ two defeats have placed them third and it seems that the playoff is their most likely destination. In group E Albania, Czech Republic, Moldova and Poland are fighting for two places and in F Belgium and Austria have already qualified for Germany
In group G Hungary is the leader and favorite, along with Serbia, to qualify with two days left. In the H Slovenia and Denmark have distanced themselves and could achieve qualification by winning tonight.
In group I, Romania and Switzerland maintain their advantage helped by the postponement of Israel’s matches. Switzerland’s draw against Belarus has allowed Romania to become the leader of the group. Finally, in group J, Portugal is already in the Eurocup after completing seven wins in the seven games played. Slovakia took a giant step, after beating the surprising Luxembourg 0-1 this Monday. It takes five points from Luxembourg and six from Iceland.
