Agents belonging to the Patrol of the Nature Protection Service of Majadahonda, accompanied by veterinary personnel from the Department of Environment, Agriculture and Interior of the Community, intervened last Tuesday four wallaby specimens in a private property that lacked the mandatory documentation that proves its ownership by the owner.
On October 7, two of the animals were already caught by the Seprona patrol of El Escorial and citizen security personnel from the Boadilla del Monte Civil Guard post, after being located by security personnel in the vicinity of the University. Camilo José Cela.
In February 2022, these animals, after escaping from the plot, caused an accident, being trapped and returned to their place of origin. This escape caused the nature protection service to begin an investigation to determine the situation of the animals.
After verifying that the owner of the plot lacks a zoological nucleus and documentation of the animals, the appropriate file was initiated that has culminated in the removal of the animals, the General Directorate of the Civil Guard reported in a statement.
The wallabies were put to sleep and taken to Faunia, a center that meets the characteristics to be able to house the animals with complete guarantee, since, as stated in Law 4/206 of July 22, relating to the protection of pets, the Wallabies are animals whose possession is prohibited outside registered zoos or in expressly authorized enclosures.
