A ten-year-old boy from Mollerussa (Lleida) was left unconscious on Tuesday afternoon after hanging himself with a tie tied around his neck when he was playing with his little sisters at home.
The Mossos d’Esquadra have opened investigation proceedings to find out what happened and “in principle”, according to a spokesperson for the Catalan police, they are treating the event as an accident.
The boy was playing with his younger sisters when he tied a tie around his neck and hung himself from a piece of furniture and became unconscious due to the pressure exerted by the garment.
There was an adult in the home who, upon realizing it, quickly notified the emergency services, according to Segre.
The child was treated at home by paramedics from the Medical Emergency System (SEM). He was then transferred to the Mollerussa primary care center and from there to the Arnau Hospital in Vilanova. Because of his critical prognosis, he was transferred to the Vall d’Hebron hospital in Barcelona.
