This Thursday, April 11, the world of sports has received the most tragic news: O.J. Simpson, one of the great stars of the NFL, died at the age of 76 after a long fight against cancer.
His own relatives were in charge of breaking the news through social networks: ”On April 10, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you respect his wishes for privacy and grace. The Simpson family,” they wrote on the social network X.
The athlete was known for starring in one of the most controversial trials in the history of the United States, and O.J. Simpson was arrested in 1994 for allegedly murdering his wife Nicole Brown and his friend Ronald Goldman.
The trial, described as “the most sensational of the 20th century” led to a worldwide spectacle. After being chased by the Los Angeles police for an hour on the highway, the athlete was acquitted of the accusations, a task that his lawyers took care of.
Such was the popularity of his case, that decades later Ryan Murpy created a series in his honor. This is a season of American Crime Story, specifically The People vs O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
Murphy assembled a top cast for the occasion with Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr as O.J. Simpson, Courtney B. Vance, Sarah Paulson, David Schwimmer and John Travolta in the other roles. The series can be found on Disney, has ten episodes, and received 22 Emmy nominations.
