He continues to call for the West to send more fighter jets and weapons to his forces to defend against Russian aggression.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her upcoming address to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in Monday’s letter to the members of both the House and Senate. Pelosi and Schumer stated that Congress “remains unwaveringly committed to supporting Ukraine in the face of Putin’s cruel, diabolical aggression and to passing legislation which will cripple and isolate Russia as well as provide humanitarian, security, and economic assistance for Ukraine.”

The Democratic leaders stated that the Congress and the entire world were in awe at the courage, resilience, and determination of the Ukrainian people in the face Russia’s unprovoked and vicious war. “As war continues in Ukraine, it’s with great respect for and admiration of the Ukrainian people that all Members of Congress are invited to attend a Virtual Address of the United States Congress by President Volodymyr Zeleskyy of Ukraine on Wednesday March 16th, 9:00 AM.”

As the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its third week, the Ukrainian leader has asked for the U.S. to create a no fly zone over Ukraine. Fearing an even wider conflict in Europe, Western leaders have refused to listen to his pleas. Russia launched a missile attack against a Ukrainian military facility in the west, near the border to Poland, a NATO member.

Zelensky had previously spoken to members of Congress during a Zoom call in March. In which he asked lawmakers for more fighter jets, and military support for Ukraine.

As Ukraine tries to stop invading Russian troops, Congress approved and President Biden signed $13.6 billion in aid packages for Ukraine. This was more than the White House requested. In addition to imposing sanctions on Russia earlier in the war that devastated the Russian economy, Mr. Biden announced a ban of Russian oil and gas imports.

Zelensky encouraged Ukrainians not to surrender to the Russian invasion, since Russian forces are closing in on Kyiv. On Monday, another round of direct talks was held between Russian and Ukrainian officials.
