White House briefs social media experts on Ukraine crisis

Briefing attendees included content creators from social media platforms like YouTube, TikTok and Twitter who had been covering Ukraine. According to an official, briefers provided an overview of recent information on Ukraine and projected the U.S. view of the conflict going forward. They also answered questions. The Washington Post reported the meeting’s first.

Officials from the White House stated that digital creators produced explanation content about Ukraine. This has generated millions of views and provided information about the crisis to younger generations. According to the official, the Russian government is now paying TikTok creators for pro-Kremlin propaganda material. This makes it crucial that content creators are equipped with facts and answers.

“An amazing amount of people are learning more about the invasion in Ukraine through digital creators, who have started to cover it,” White House Director of Digital Strategy Rob Flaherty tweeted Friday. We take this seriously and we are working to ensure that those creators can get their questions answered.

Some of the digital creators that attended the briefing used social media to share their learnings.

Marcus DiPaola (content creator) posted the following: “Here’s the three most important parts of the White House meeting that I and a bunch other creators just attended.” Marcus DiPaola has over 3.5 million followers on TikTok. The United States will take escalatory measures if Russia uses chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine. It won’t be good news for Russia, though we don’t know exactly what it means. The second is that Russian troops aren’t happy with their invasion. This is affecting Russia’s ability in the war. Third, Russia will not win in Ukraine. It’s impossible to win in Ukraine after things have turned so badly.”
