A U.S.-based non-profit helps local churches deliver supplies to the wounded citizens of war zones.
The U.S.-based Slavic Gospel Association is sending financial donations for a network 40 churches in Eastern Ukraine. 27 are located in Ukraine, while 13 are on the Russian side. These churches work to provide food, blankets, and medicine in the most difficult areas.
Fox News’ Eric Mock, vice-president of ministry operations at SGA, stated that the aid he sent was on both sides. In other words, because of the many people fleeing conflict, we also send aid to Russia.
SGA has existed since 1934, but was more effective in serving churches in 1991 after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
According to Mock, the organization has been working since 2014 with a network of evangelical and Baptist church churches that have “rushed aid into the warzone” in eastern Ukraine.
The organization currently supports approximately 2,300 Ukrainian and Russian pastors, who rush to help those in greatest need.
Everyone was trying to “get away from the flames” in the initial days of the conflict. But now Mock says that “they’re beginning to find their feet.”
A pastor from Ukraine was the first person to drive into active fighting areas to bring aid to homes.
Mock stated that for every $15 donated to SGA, “we are able to get large bags of groceries to these families through these local church ministries.” He estimated that this is 70% of the current need.
They also fund and deliver blankets, food, and other aid to those “basically left without clothes on their backs.”
They also provide “family survival packs”, which contain a substantial amount of groceries and a “diverse quantity of medical aid” such as Tylenol and Advil, blankets, and in some cases mattresses.
Mock stated that SGA still accepts donations. However, the organization was able send substantial amounts of money to local pastors before the conflict. They can now focus on delivering the supplies.
Mock stated that they do more than just this.
“I believe it’s important to bring a message of hope. He said that you should also bring physical aid. “This is crucial because in dark times, people can despair and give up when they lack hope.
