Live updates: Spanish schools will reopen next week as normal

Carolina Darias, Health Minister of Spain, says Spain’s central government and regional governments unanimously agreed Tuesday to continue with in-person education.

Darias stated at a press conference, that Spain’s high vaccination rates had meant that there was not as many people falling seriously ill during the recent spike in COVID-19 case due to the omicron variation.

Pilar Alegria, Education Minister, says that pandemic protocols will not be changed. This means that students must wear face masks and must regularly clean their hands. Classrooms must also be adequately ventilated.

Schools will reopen on Monday. Spanish universities hold exams, and will not return to teaching until next months.
