The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be a wildly creative game. This is the idea that the first video with gameplay of this long-awaited title, published this afternoon by Nintendo, seems to want to demonstrate. The new great episode within this acclaimed franchise will hit stores on May 12 for Nintendo Switch, but its mechanics and operation had not been seen in such detail until today.

Rewinding the state of objects, combining weapons, building vehicles, breaking through walls… As the presenter of the video and producer of the Zelda series, Eiji Aonuma, has stated, “in this game, if you consider all the possibilities, you can do endless things.”

The new video for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is focused on Link’s powers and abilities, but it also shows other particular aspects of this installment, such as the journeys between the lower world of Hyrule and the mysterious floating islands, the so-called “celestial islands” Thanks to his powers, the hero will be able to move between these two superimposed scenarios, something strongly reminiscent of another of the main episodes of the saga, Skyward Sword.

The ability to move quickly between two worlds, as well as the new powers and abilities that Link will have in this new adventure, seem to portend that the possibilities that Tears of the Kingdom will offer will be immense. Nintendo –which we remember has been developing this game for six years– has wanted to enhance what they liked so much about the previous installment of the series: the possibilities offered by physics, systems and the interaction between objects.

Despite showing the game in action for over ten minutes, there are still many unknowns about the premise of this new adventure and its connection to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. What will be maintained will be the visual aspect of the game, which has not evolved much compared to the previous installment. The humble visual performance – caused in large part by the Nintendo Switch’s own limitations – is the aspect that will surely generate the most division when the game goes on sale in a few weeks.

Precisely, Aonuma has also spoken about the launch, who has announced that the development has already finished. As expected, it has been presented that Nintendo Switch will have a special edition dedicated to Tears of the Kingdom, which will go on sale on May 12.

Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, one of the best-rated games in the entire history of the interactive medium. Released in 2017 for Nintendo Switch and Wii U, this adventure was a breath of fresh air in the open world adventure game genre. Its innovative mechanics, fully open structure, and believable physics system have been features that have influenced other titles ever since.
