On Sunday at the Barcelona Convention Center, Xiaomi presented a large number of devices. Among them the powerful Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Today, as soon as the MWC opened, it showed the big absentee at yesterday’s event: the spectacular SU7 electric car.
The reason why this vehicle was at a telecommunications technology fair is found in the software: the HyperOS operating system based on Google’s Android. Xiaomi has emphasized this new system in its two meetings with the press in Barcelona.
The company’s intention is to interconnect its enormous number of devices, ranging from household appliances to the car presented today and, of course, its wide range of smartphones.
The company has promised that HyperOS will be a secure operating system with customer data, but many were waiting for more details on this aspect. One of the things that has been most worrying about Xiaomi products for a long time.
In fact, in the two days that we have tested HyperOS, some details have caught our attention, such as the insistence that we accept the terms of use of the Xiaomi browser that is incorporated by default. Although our intention is to use another application for web browsing.
We will have to check more calmly if Xiaomi has improved in the field of privacy. Something that will be essential so that your products can be purchased with peace of mind. Let us not forget that in Europe this is an aspect that is becoming more and more relevant. Not only by the institutions of the European Union, but by the citizens themselves.
Where the company has provided enormous information has been about the photographic section. The cameras of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra have given us good feelings in the two days that we have used this phone, which flows with complete solvency thanks to its powerful third-generation Snapdragon 8 processor.
But where Xiaomi has stood out in terms of the presentation of technology is in the camera of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. A phone with a range of very high-performance cameras. When using it in the test area set up for the press, it has positively surprised us in some aspects.
There are details that will clearly seduce those looking to fine-tune image capture in manual mode, such as its variable aperture diaphragm. And we’re not talking about a software simulation, this is a real, very high-tech diaphragm.
The component opens and closes using a system that allows multiple openings. We have never seen anything like this on any phone or camera to date. Specifically, it can range between a value of f/1.6 and f/4 with numerous intermediate levels.
This is important, because after several decades using mobile phones capturing flat images, where the photographic subject cannot be emphasized due to excessive sharpness of the background, Xiaomi, by introducing this component and a large image sensor, one inch, gives us gives the opportunity to modify the depth of field when recording photos and videos. And with much more naturalness and quality than using the portrait mode algorithms.
Something that we have also verified with the Xiaomi 14 and that will surely be identical in the Ultra variant, is that artificial intelligence does not wreak havoc. We are referring to some things that we have seen, some even in this MWC, when using such aggressive image processing through AI that practically transforms the image into a fantasy.
Regarding the expected Xiaomi car and its promising features, up to 800 kilometers of autonomy and a top speed of more than 270 kilometers per hour, it is not at all clear when it will begin to be manufactured, let alone sold. And, yes, its external appearance is incredible.
We do not want to forget one of Xiaomi’s most captivating products due to its reasonable price. We have had the opportunity to get in touch with the recently presented Xiaomi Smart Band 8 and it has surprised us. Especially since its official price is only 70 euros.
By the way, the Xiaomi 14 will have a price starting at 1,000 euros and the Ultra model will be sold with a price starting at 1,500 euros. Yes, a figure higher than that of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. For the Xiaomi SU7 car, the Chinese company does not currently provide an indicative figure of what it will cost.
