Sony announces that it will soon be possible to play PS5 via streaming

Soon it will be possible to play PlayStation 5 titles without downloading them. Sony has announced that it is currently doing tests to enable the transmission of games from this console in the cloud, a functionality that will initially be exclusive to members of the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription service.

“We are testing cloud streaming for supported PS5 games; This includes PS5 titles from the PlayStation Plus game catalog and game demos, as well as compatible digital PS5 titles owned by players themselves,” said Nick Maguire, Vice President of Global Services for Sony Interactive Entertainment.

What will this new functionality mean? Basically, it will allow users of this console to be able to run PS5 titles directly from the cloud without having to download them. For those people who are short of space on their console, it can be an option to take into account.

Currently it is already possible to stream PS5 games to play on PC, Mac or mobile devices (iOS and Android), but to do so it is necessary to download them to the console. With this new functionality, instead, they can be run directly from Sony’s own cloud to play them on PS5.

“Premium members will have it more it will be easier to access their favorite games without first downloading them to their PS5 console,” Maguire said through a message on the official PlayStation blog. The manager explains that this new functionality seeks to add “an additional benefit to PlaStation Plus Premium”.

Evidence of Sony’s interest in offering PS5 game streaming has emerged in recent months. In a recent job offer, it was discovered that the multinational is looking for workers related to cloud video game technology.

At the end of last month, Sony announced Project Q, a portable device designed to play PS5 titles via streaming. Although the Japanese company has not detailed whether the new device will be able to play PS5 games in the cloud, it is clear that there is a very direct connection between the presentation of this new accessory and today’s announcement.

“We believe it is important that Premium members can enjoy as many games as possible through cloud streaming,” said the Sony manager in a statement, also specifying that they cannot yet share the release date. of this new functionality.
