Skyshowtime arrives in Spain to take customers away from Netflix: how it works and how much it's worth

This Tuesday, February 28, SkyShowtime arrives in Spain, the new streaming platform from Paramount and NBCUniversal that hosts content from Universal, Paramount and other production companies. Hand in hand with Sky and Showtime, the new platform joins the extensive and competitive streaming catalogue, led by Netflix, HBO Max and Prime Video, among others.

The new platform unites two large audiovisual brands owned by the Comcast group, the telecommunications company Sky, with a presence in the United Kingdom and other European countries, and the American Showtime. SkyShowtime was born from this merger, a platform that will offer content from iconic audiovisual brands from the same group.

There are many doubts about the newly released platform. How can I hire the service? What is the subscription price? What devices will it be available on? Could you share account? Below we answer the most common questions about SkyShowtime.

On the new platform you will find content from major production companies such as Universal, DreamWorks, Sky, Peacock, Nickelodeon, Showtime, Paramount and Paramount Pictures. The catalog has more than 600 films from important sagas and franchises.

To receive a warm welcome, SkyShowtime has decided to follow in the footsteps of HBO Max during its premiere in Spain. New subscribers will have access to a significant discount; Although the price of the monthly subscription will be 5.99 euros, for a limited time you can create an account for 2.99 euros per month.

This offer called “Half price for life” will be available from February 28 to April 25, 2023, that is, the first month of the launch of the platform. This promotion excludes the annual subscription, although it must be taken into account that by paying 2.99 euros per month, the full year costs 35.88 euros.

SkyShowtime can be seen by downloading its application on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Android, Android TV, Google Chromecast and some LG and Samsung TVs. It will also have its web version, which can be accessed from any browser on both Mac and PC. At the moment it is unknown if it will release a version for Fire TV or consoles such as PlayStation or Xbox.

The Movistar Plus decoder will also integrate SkyShowtime, since it has agreements with the producer to offer some of its content. The Movistar device already includes applications from other platforms, such as Netflix or Disney.

As for subscriptions, there is hardly any difference compared to other platforms; In the same way that it happens in Prime video or HBO Max, with a subscription it is possible to create several profiles for different members of the family. Regarding account sharing, SkyShowtime allows you to share your subscription with up to three simultaneous devices.

Each subscription allows you to create up to six user profiles, which can be adult or child content. In the child profile there are three different age groups: all ages, older children, up to 9 years old and up to 12 years old. Adult profiles allow content for the whole family, up to 12 years old, up to 16 years old and from 18 years old.
