Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees were both named Major League Baseball’s Most Valuable Players by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Ohtani received his third MVP award and his first in the National League after making history with 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season. Despite not pitching due to elbow surgery, Ohtani played a crucial role in leading the Dodgers to a World Series title.
As the first designated hitter to win MVP honors, Ohtani had an impressive season with a .310 batting average, 59 stolen bases, and a National League-leading 54 home runs and 130 RBI’s. He also received other awards for his performance at the plate. Ohtani previously won MVP in 2021 and 2023 while playing with the Los Angeles Angels.
Aaron Judge, on the other hand, reclaimed the AL MVP crown in the American League. He led the majors with 58 home runs, 144 RBI’s, and 133 walks, guiding the Yankees to their first World Series appearance since 2009. Judge expressed his gratitude for the support he received from his teammates and fans in New York.
Judge also won the 2024 Hank Aaron award as the most outstanding offensive performer in the league. He beat out teammate Juan Soto and Bobby Witt Jr. for the MVP award. Yankees manager Aaron Boone praised Judge for his exceptional performance and leadership on the field.
Both Ohtani and Judge had outstanding seasons that earned them the MVP honors unanimously. Their contributions to their respective teams were instrumental in their success throughout the season. The recognition from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America solidifies their legacy as two of the best players in the league.
