Promote Safe Drug Disposal with SSM Health for Prescription Drug Takeback Day

news-21102024-150147

Prescription drug safety is a top priority as National Prescription Drug Takeback Day approaches. The official DEA event is set for Saturday, October 26, but SSM Health is taking the initiative by hosting a week-long drug takeback drive starting on Monday and running through the weekend.

SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital on Clayton Road is just one of the locations where individuals can safely drop off their prescription drugs. Drop-off sites will have designated bins for easy disposal.

The goal of the program, according to SSM officials, is to offer a safe, convenient, and responsible method for people to dispose of their prescription medications. It is well-known that unused prescription drugs left in home medicine cabinets can pose risks, especially to children and adults if they end up in the wrong hands.

By participating in the take-back program, individuals can ensure that their prescription drugs are disposed of safely, reducing the chances of misuse or accidental ingestion.

SSM Health conducts this community collection drive twice a year. During the previous takeback day in April, SSM Health collected a total of 327 pounds of expired and unused medications from the St. Louis region alone. Statewide, nearly 39,000 pounds of prescription drugs were collected across Missouri and Illinois.

Starting Monday, you can drop off your prescription drugs at any SSM Health Hospital in the St. Louis area. Additionally, there are various other sites where you can safely dispose of your prescription drugs on Saturday. It is essential to take advantage of initiatives like the drug takeback drive to ensure the safe disposal of prescription medications. By participating, you can contribute to preventing potential dangers and tragedies associated with the misuse of prescription drugs. Your actions can make a difference in promoting a safer and healthier community for all.
