The latest update of Pixel VPN by Google is now available for download on the Play Store. The good news is that it does not require Android 14 QPR3 to be installed on the Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, and Fold devices. This update brings the subscription-based VPN by Google One replacement to the Pixel 7 – Fold models, as Google One will no longer offer a VPN service after June 20.

One of the key improvements in this version, which was first introduced with the Pixel 8 series, is the better integration of the VPN into the system. Unlike before, you will no longer see a persistent “1” notification, but instead, a key icon will appear in the status bar on the right side of the screen.

In addition to these changes, the app/service has been renamed from “VPN by Google One” to simply “VPN by Google” in various locations. The new update also introduces a new blue shield icon with a “G” at the center, which can be seen in Settings > Network & internet > VPN and Recents multitasking.

If you own a Pixel 8, 8 Pro, or 8a device, you can update to version 1.0.635841321 by visiting the Play Store. For users on Android 14 QPR2 who have not yet received the QPR3/June Feature Drop, you can manually install the update from the Play Store listing. During our testing, the VPN worked perfectly this afternoon.

To set up the VPN, simply open the app listing and follow the instructions to enable notifications and mobile network usage. You will also need to add the new Quick Settings Tile manually and remove the old one from the Quick Settings menu.

The VPN service is available in several countries, including Austria, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Belgium, Netherlands, Canada, Norway, Denmark, South Korea, Finland, Spain, France, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Iceland, Taiwan, Ireland, United Kingdom, Italy, and the United States.

In addition to the VPN update, other Pixel-related news includes improvements to the Pixel Recorder app with a new ‘Record’ app shortcut, the rollout of a ‘Lookup’ reverse number search feature in the Google Phone app, and a series of fixes for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro with the Android 14 QPR3 update.
