A man in Florida, John Lapinski, has been arrested for allegedly targeting U.S. Congressman Jared Moskowitz. Lapinski, a 41-year-old former felon, was found in possession of a rifle, a suppressor, and body armor near Moskowitz’s home. Moskowitz, who represents parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties, was alerted to a potential plot on his life by Lapinski.

In addition to the firearms, Lapinski was also found with a manifesto containing antisemitic rhetoric and Moskowitz’s name on a ‘target’ list. This incident comes after Lapinski was previously arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Detectives investigating the case have turned over their findings to the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Moskowitz, who serves on a bi-partisan task force on the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump, expressed concerns not only for his own safety but also for the security of other congressional members. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of elected officials, especially when they are not at the Capitol.

As Lapinski remains in custody at the Joseph V. Conte Detention Facility in Pompano Beach on a U.S. Marshals hold, there is a possibility of additional federal charges being brought against him. The investigation into Lapinski’s motives and potential criminal acts is ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure the safety of Congressman Moskowitz and other officials.

This incident serves as a reminder of the threats that public figures may face and the importance of maintaining security measures to protect them. It highlights the need for vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies to prevent potential harm to elected officials and ensure the safety of the community as a whole.
