Jordan Binnington has made history with the St. Louis Blues by becoming the team’s all-time leader in goaltender wins. This milestone was achieved after Binnington claimed his 152nd regular-season victory as a Blues goaltender during a game against the New Jersey Devils, where he made an impressive 31 saves en route to his 16th shutout in the NHL.
By surpassing the previous record set by his professional hockey agent, Mike Liut, Binnington has solidified his place in Blues history. Liut’s record of 151 victories had stood for almost forty years before Binnington’s remarkable accomplishment.
Reflecting on his achievement, Binnington shared his pride in being a part of the Blues organization and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play for the city. This season marks Binnington’s fifth consecutive year as the Blues’ starting goaltender, and he holds the distinction of being the only netminder to win a Stanley Cup title-clinching game in the team’s history.
Binnington’s rise to prominence began during an outstanding rookie season in 2018-19, where he played a pivotal role in the Blues’ journey from last place in January to Stanley Cup champions. His memorable first NHL start against the Philadelphia Flyers, which resulted in a shutout victory, is often viewed as a turning point in the team’s championship run.
Known for his impressive performance under pressure, Binnington’s playoff success has also been noteworthy. He holds the Blues’ all-time record for playoff wins with 20 victories, many of which were crucial during the team’s Stanley Cup-winning campaign. While these playoff wins do not factor into his recent regular-season record-breaking achievement, they highlight Binnington’s overall contributions to the team.
Throughout his career, Binnington has delivered several memorable wins that have contributed to his record-breaking success. Notable victories include a franchise-record 11 consecutive wins against the Toronto Maple Leafs, a career-high 50-save performance against the Vegas Golden Knights, and a standout performance in the 2022 Winter Classic against the Minnesota Wild.
At 31 years old, Binnington still has three seasons remaining on his current contract with the Blues. With the potential to continue excelling in his role as the team’s starting goaltender, Binnington could realistically set his sights on reaching 200 wins and further solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest goaltenders in Blues history.
