The latest update to the Google app on Android has brought about a significant change – the Search bar has been moved to the bottom of the screen for easier access. This persistent Search bar can be found at the bottom of any web result or Discover article that you open.
When you open a Chrome Custom Tab, you will notice an “Ask anything” Search bar at the bottom of the screen. The familiar four-color ‘G’ logo is displayed first, followed by the microphone and Lens buttons on the right. Simply tapping on the Search bar will take you to a fullscreen Search page where you can see previous queries and receive suggestions as you type.
While the new bottom Search bar may cover up a small portion of the webpage, the reduction in visible content is not significant. Users who have “AI tools while browsing” enabled in Search Labs may have noticed a different type of bar with slightly more space taken up, but this feature seems to no longer be active with the bottom Search field. For those who utilize this feature, they can access additional insights by opening the overflow menu and selecting “View page insights.”
This change in the placement of the Search bar could potentially be a sign of things to come, with speculation that the Search bar may eventually be moved to the bottom of the main screen of the Google app. Users across various devices, including tablets, have reported seeing this change after updating to the latest Google app beta version (15.24).
In addition to this update, Google has introduced other enhancements to its Search feature, such as a new “Listen to this page” text-to-speech capability on Android. This further enhances the user experience and accessibility of the app.
With these continuous updates and improvements, Google is aiming to make the Search experience more user-friendly and efficient for its users. Stay tuned for more updates on Google Search and other related features.
