Former Cheer Coach Arrested for Assaulting Minor in Jefferson County: What You Need to Know
In a shocking turn of events, a former cheer coach in Jefferson County, Missouri, is now facing serious allegations of sexually assaulting a minor. Marco Zomphier finds himself behind bars after being accused of heinous acts against a young cheerleader in the area.
Details of the Assault
According to court documents, the assaults took place over a period of 10 months in 2022 and were described in graphic detail. Jefferson County detectives revealed that Zomphier allegedly picked up an underage victim from her home while her parents were away. He then proceeded to drive her to store parking lots, where the assaults occurred.
The victim, a mere 13 years old at the time, later confided in police that she felt powerless to refuse Zomphier’s advances. Additionally, Zomphier allegedly sent inappropriate messages to the victim via Snapchat and texted her on multiple occasions. Shockingly, one of the assaults even took place with an infant present in the car.
Threats and Silence
One of the most disturbing aspects of this case is the victim’s reluctance to come forward initially. The young girl cited Zomphier’s threats as the reason for her silence, claiming that he had threatened to harm himself or expose intimate videos and pictures of her if she spoke out.
Repercussions and Investigation
While the court records do not specify the exact gym where Zomphier worked as a coach, the U.S. All Star Federation Club Cheer and Dance Teams have taken swift action. Zomphier has been placed on the restricted list and is permanently ineligible due to athlete protection violations. Efforts to reach USASF for a comment have been unsuccessful thus far.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office detectives have stated that they do not currently suspect any additional victims. However, they are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation by calling 636-797-5515.
As of now, Zomphier remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail without the option of bond. This case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and swift action in cases of abuse and assault.
