Former Aventura Condo President Accused of Stealing $1.5M – $15,000 Check Raises Questions | WSVN 7News

After the recent arrest of the president of a South Florida condo association, new questions have arisen regarding a $15,000 check that was obtained by 7Investigates. The arrest of Turnberry on the Green President Gregori Arzumanov has left residents in shock and disbelief.

According to Chief Michael Bentolila of the Aventura Police, Arzumanov had complete control over the building and all its assets, as he held multiple positions within the association since 2008. Prosecutors have accused him of embezzling over $1.5 million from the association to fund his personal expenses, including food, artwork, and even airplane fuel for his flight lessons.

The recent discovery of a $15,000 check paid to a Miami law firm representing Arzumanov has raised further concerns. While the memo on the check indicates it was for a “Legal Retainer – Aventura PD,” Attorney Sam Rabin clarified that the payment was made during an investigation and was not related to Arzumanov’s criminal case. The key question now is whether the prior board approved this payment for legal representation.

Condo law expert David Haber emphasized that while the board has the right to hire an attorney for an investigation into its president, it may not have been the best decision in this case. Arzumanov is currently detained at the Metro West Detention Center on a $350,000 bond, with a pending hearing to consider a reduction in bond amount scheduled for Wednesday.

As the investigation continues, residents are left wondering what else Arzumanov may have used their funds for. The case serves as a cautionary tale for condo associations and highlights the importance of proper financial oversight and accountability in such communities.
