Facebook Live by probation-violation suspect yields arrest at Florida Chuck E. Cheese

LAKELAND — Florida deputies say an 18-year-old woman wanted on a probation violation tipped them off when she appeared on a Facebook live video from a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant.

The Polk County Sheriff’s office said Markesha Wilkerson posted the video Monday from the children’s themed restaurant, including video of her smiling and laughing with a person in a mouse costume.

Officers arrested Wilkerson for violation of probation on a gun charge and failure to appear.

She’s being held in the Polk County Jail without bond. It’s unclear whether she’s retained an attorney.

Facebook video has been in the headlines for a more heinous crime in recent days as Steve Stephens, who killed himself after a brief police pursuit Tuesday, shared a recording on the site Sunday of himself announcing his plan to kill someone — then two minutes later posted another video of himself shooting and killing Godwin, Facebook said. A few minutes after that, he went live and confessed, Facebook said. In the video Stephens posted of himself killing Robert Godwin Sr., a former foundry worker who police said had 10 children, Stephens said, "I snapped, I just snapped."

Last month, a Chicago girl was sexually assaulted in an attack streamed live on Facebook — prosecutors said she was threatened with a dog attack if she tried to flee. Both suspects are charged with aggravated sexual assault and manufacturing and dissemination of child pornography.

Last month, Facebook introduced single-tap ability in its mobile app for people to access their camera and instantly share photos or videos, a move that stock markets saw as a challenge to Snapchat. Facebook Inc. said it wants to let people’s cameras “do the talking,” as more people are posting photos and videos instead of blocks of text. That’s both a compliment and a big challenge to Snapchat, which has been a pioneer in getting app users to chat through photos and videos.
