Elon Musk, the business magnate and owner of Digital Services (DSA) of the European Union. The DSA is a set of regulations designed to ensure a safer digital environment and protect user rights, while promoting innovation and competition in the European single market.

The specialized publication Business Insider reported last week that sources close to the social network had suggested that Elon Musk was contemplating the possibility of blocking access from EU member countries due to the perception that complying with DSA demands was ” frustrating”. Many other media echoed the information.

However, Musk himself has used the X platform to deny these claims, calling them “completely false.” Access to X in the European Union is not at immediate risk, Musk assures.

This news comes at a time when the European Commission has taken action regarding X. The Commission has sent a formal request to the platform to submit a report on how it manages violent content and disinformation on its platform, according to with DSA legislation. A deadline was established for the delivery of information on “illegal content” that expired on October 18. The Commission reserves the right to take “next steps”, including the possibility of imposing fines for providing incorrect, incomplete or misleading information.

It is relevant to note that other social networks, such as Meta with its microblogging application Threads, have chosen not to offer their services to European users due to strict data protection regulations and the DSA. Threads, which launched in the United States in July, has not yet arrived in Europe due to complex data protection legislation in the EU.

Elon Musk’s refusal to withdraw access to X in the EU comes as a turnaround in this context of increasing regulatory scrutiny in the digital world. Musk’s position reaffirms his commitment to keeping the platform operational in Europe and, at the same time, complying with the regulations established by the European Union.

The story continues to unfold, as European authorities continue to evaluate content management on social media and how the DSA will be applied in practice.
