One day after revealing that Twitter’s source code was leaked online, the social network’s boss, Elon Musk, has announced that, starting April 15, the platform will only show tweets from verified paid Twitter Blue accounts on the ‘For You’ interface.
As explained by the media businessman on his Twitter account, the company takes this measure with the aim of preventing “swarms of advanced artificial intelligence ‘bots'” from taking control of the social network. For Musk, this decision is the “only realistic way” to avoid it.
However, the same owner of Twitter has recognized that these artificial intelligence ‘bots’ will be able to pay for their verification and, therefore, continue to appear in the personalized ‘feeds’ of each user as long as they do not try to impersonate humans.
The “For You” interface has been one of the big news on Twitter in recent months. This option not only displays tweets from accounts a user follows, but also content based on past tweets that have been liked or liked by others in their network.
In short, it is the social network itself that recommends content to users based on their activity on it. This function, however, has not been very well received by users since it appeared last January in the application of the social network for iPhone.
Now, the fact that this interface only shows posts from verified users could mean that the ‘feed’ could be made up of mostly promotional tweets.
Another novelty from Twitter that Elon Musk has also presented is that Twitter Blue users will be the only ones who will be able to vote in the polls. This decision is also part of the company’s fight against ‘bots’.
In a few weeks, the only verified accounts on Elon Musk’s social network will be those of paid Twitter Blue subscribers.
Twitter announced a few days ago that on April 1 it will remove legacy checkmarks, stripping public figures, businesses, government and non-government organizations and the like of their status unless they pay for it.
