The weather in St. Louis took a sharp turn towards fall as temperatures plummeted overnight on Wednesday. The metro area saw temperatures in the upper 30s, while areas further west in Missouri dropped to freezing or below, especially near I-72 in Illinois. It was a frosty start for everyone on Wednesday, with a freeze warning in effect for western communities and northern regions.

As the day progresses, temperatures will slowly rise, reaching only around 60 degrees with sunny skies. A shift to a southerly wind flow is expected Wednesday night, leading to another cold night, although slightly warmer than the previous one.

Thursday and Friday will bring a gradual warm-up, with highs reaching back into the 70s by the weekend. Overnight temperatures will also be milder, making for more comfortable evenings.

However, with the recent dry spell and some breezy conditions, the risk of fires will be higher on Thursday and Friday. It’s important to exercise caution, especially if you’re planning to have a fire pit going over the weekend. Stay safe and enjoy the changing weather as we transition into the fall season.
