Paragliders flying over Egypt’s Great Pyramids at sunrise were in for a surprise when they spotted a stray dog roaming around the summit of one of the ancient wonders. Marshall Mosher, a US paraglider, described the unexpected sight as he and his fellow adventurers observed the dog chasing birds at the top of the 448-foot-tall Khafre pyramid.

Initially concerned that the dog might be stuck, Mosher soon realized that the canine seemed to be capable of finding its way down. The following day, they flew over the pyramid again but couldn’t spot the dog. However, a video captured by another adventurer showed what appeared to be the same dog safely descending the pyramid.

While it’s uncertain whether it was the same animal, Mosher explained that there are many stray dogs in the Pyramids complex, with some frequently seen near the base. He is now on a mission to locate animal shelters in Cairo to provide these strays with permanent homes.

The videos of the dog’s adventure quickly went viral on social media, garnering millions of views overnight. Mosher, who has been creating content for a few years, was surprised by the immense interest in the dog’s escapade. Some online users even drew comparisons between the dog and Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of the dead.

Mosher regularly takes part in an annual flying event organized by SkyOne Egypt, allowing him to paraglide over the Great Pyramids of Giza and experience the iconic site from a unique perspective. He commented that the view from the top of the pyramid must have been enticing for the adventurous dog.

The incident has highlighted the presence of stray animals in the area, prompting Mosher to seek ways to help them find safer and more stable homes. Despite expecting the focus to be on the paragliding experience itself, he was taken aback by the overwhelming attention the dog’s story received.

As the dog’s adventure continues to captivate audiences worldwide, Mosher remains committed to raising awareness about the stray animal population near the Great Pyramids and advocating for their welfare. The remarkable sight of a dog on top of an ancient Egyptian pyramid serves as a reminder of the enduring allure and mystique of these historic landmarks.
