Baldur’s Gate 3 has won the award for best game of the year at The Game Awards 2023, the gala considered “the Oscars of video games.” The acclaimed role-playing game developed by the Belgian studio Larian Studios has won a total of six statuettes at the ceremony held tonight at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles (California).
In addition to winning the coveted GOTY (Game of the Year), it has also won the awards for best community, best role-playing game, best multiplayer, best performance by Neil Newbon (Astarion) and the audience award.
The race to win the prestigious game of the year award has been especially close due to the big releases of 2023. Baldur’s Gate 3 competed against Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the latter being its great rival, which has only won the award for best action and adventure game.
After actor Timothée Chalamet read the name of the winning game for game of the year, four directors of Larian Studios led by its founder Swen Vincke – appropriately dressed in part of medieval armor – took the stage to collect the award. It should be remembered that the Larian Studios team in Barcelona has also participated in the development of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Precisely, during The Game Awards 2023 gala, the long-awaited release date of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series was announced after it came out on PC and PS5 this past summer. To the joy of all fans of role-playing games on the Microsoft console, the game is available today on this platform.
