From Abandoned to Adored: Trooper’s Journey to a Forever Home

In the midst of the chaos and destruction caused by Hurricane Milton, a heartwarming story of resilience and love emerged in Parkland, Florida. A bull terrier named Trooper, abandoned and abused, found his forever family in Frank and Carla Spina, who opened their hearts and home to this deserving pup.

A Tale of Resilience

Trooper’s journey began when Florida Highway Patrol troopers discovered him tied to a fence near the I-75 in Tampa, just hours before Hurricane Milton made landfall. Frank Spina, recounting the moment they found Trooper, shared, “When we received him, he was still raw. The previous owners had abused him.” Carla Spina, overwhelmed with emotion, added, “I was in tears, and the first thing I said was, ‘Oh, my God, we have to save this dog.’ It’s just, who could do that?”

A Ray of Hope

After a successful rescue operation, FHP troopers named the pup “Trooper” and brought him to a shelter to begin his journey to a new home. Starting at the Hillsborough County shelter, Trooper was later transported to the Leon County Humane Society in the aftermath of the storm. Carla recalled, “First he was at Hillsborough County shelter. Then they transported him, because of the storm, to Leon County Humane Society. Poor thing then went to a great foster home.”

A New Beginning

Following a four-week stay at a foster home, the Spinas received a call from the Leon County Humane Society about Trooper’s past abuse. Determined to make a difference, Frank said, “They told me the story about him being abused by a male. I said, ‘I’ve done this for 33 years. I just need five minutes.’ Within 60 seconds, he was under my legs, and I was scratching him, and he was smiling.” With their hearts full of love and compassion, the Spinas embarked on a seven and a half-hour journey from Parkland to Tallahassee to bring Trooper home.

A New Chapter

Now, Trooper has found his forever family with Frank and Carla, along with his new sister Dallas. Adjusting to his new life, Trooper is thriving in a loving environment where he is cherished and adored. Frank shared, “He’s daddy’s boy. We think we turned him around. We’re so lucky. We’re so blessed to have him.” As they revel in the joy of giving Trooper a second chance at happiness, the Spinas hope to inspire others to consider adoption and give dogs like Trooper a new lease on life.

In a world often filled with hardship and despair, Trooper’s story serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the transformative power of love and compassion. As we navigate through life’s storms, may we all find the strength to be a source of light and warmth for those in need.
