A candlelight vigil in memory of former Minnesota Vikings defensive back Khyree Jackson turned tragic when a shooting occurred, leaving one person dead and another injured. The vigil, held in Maryland to honor Jackson and two others who died in a car crash, took a devastating turn at around 10:00 p.m. at Jackson’s former high school in Upper Marlboro.

According to the Prince Georges County Police Department, the shooting took place in the school’s parking lot, where one person was shot in the leg and another possibly in the chest. Upon arrival, police found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds, both of whom were taken to the hospital. The woman is in stable condition, but unfortunately, the male victim succumbed to his injuries.

Khyree Jackson had been drafted by the Minnesota Vikings just a few months prior to his untimely death. The team expressed their condolences to his family and loved ones following the fatal car accident that also claimed the lives of his former high school football teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr.

The tragic accident took place while Hazel was driving a Dodge Charger, resulting in his immediate death at the scene. Jackson was also found deceased at the crash site, while Lytton passed away after being taken to the hospital. All three athletes had been part of Wise High School’s state championship team in 2016.

Police are still investigating the shooting incident and have not made any arrests in connection with the case. The community, as well as the football world, mourns the loss of these young talents and offers their support to the families and friends affected by these heartbreaking events. The legacy of Khyree Jackson, Isaiah Hazel, and Anthony Lytton Jr. will live on in the memories of those who knew and admired them.
