A surprising and hilarious crossover has taken place on the mainstage of Chopin Theatre in Chicago, where The Golden Girls Meet the Skooby Don’t Gang: The Mystery of the Haunted Bush is currently being performed by Hell in a Handbag Productions. This new installment in the Golden Girls parody series brings together two iconic television universes in a raunchy and entertaining way.

The story follows Rose’s nephew, Fred, who is a member of the Skooby Don’t gang, a group of amateur sleuths who travel around solving mysteries. Fred is joined by Skooby, Skaggy, Velva, and Daffy, all of whom are dealing with their own personal journeys, including the exploration of their sexuality. When a mysterious Bush Monster sets its sights on Rose, the gang must work together to uncover the truth behind the haunting.

While the mystery itself may not always make perfect sense, the play is filled with witty one-liners and high-energy slapstick comedy. The scene where the Golden Girls and the Skooby gang swap identities is a standout moment, showcasing the talent of the cast and the clever writing of David Cerda. Director Frankie Leo Bennett has done an excellent job bringing this production to life, making it a must-see for fans of both The Golden Girls and Scooby-Doo.

In addition to this unique and entertaining production, there are several other exciting theater and dance performances happening in Chicago. From reimagined classics like El Piélago de las Calamidades, which offers a new perspective on Hamlet, to powerful stories of immigration and activism like Raven’s Ironbound and Colectivo El Pozo’s production, there is something for everyone to enjoy in the vibrant Chicago theater scene.

Whether you’re a fan of comedy, drama, or musical theater, Chicago has a diverse range of performances to offer. Be sure to check out the latest shows and support local artists and theater companies as they continue to bring engaging and thought-provoking work to audiences across the city.
