Andrey Rublev has announced that he will compete in the 71st edition of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-Trofeo Conde de Godó. Tennis players such as Carlos Alcaraz, current champion, and Rafael Nadal, who is the king of this competition, with twelve titles in his cabinets, will also participate in the tournament, which will be held between April 13 and 21.

In his last appearance at the Godó, in 2021, Rublev lost in the quarterfinals against the current Australian Open champion, Jannik Sinner. Precisely the Italian, in achieving his first Grand Slam in Melbourne, got rid of the Russian, also in the quarterfinals.

Rublev, current number five in the ATP ranking, knows this tournament well, since he debuted nine years ago, in 2015. In his first participation he was eliminated in the second round, at the hands of the Italian Fabio Fognini, after having beaten Fernando in the first instance. Verdasco.

Last year the winner was Carlos Alcaraz, who beat the Greek tennis player Stéfanos Tsitsipas 6-3 and 6-4. The Murcian, who presents himself as the rival to beat, managed to win the tournament without giving up a set. The other great attraction of the competition is the return of Rafa Nadal, who has not participated in the Godó since he won his twelfth trophy, in 2021.

Rublev, 26, has already won a title this season, the ATP 250 in Hong Kong, and will try to dethrone Carlos Alcaraz and become, for the first time in his career, champion of the Conde de Godó Trophy, which is preparing a historic edition to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899.
