Renowned techno artist Robert Hood, alongside Underground Resistance cofounders Jeff Mills and “Mad” Mike Banks, is set to take the stage at Smart Bar in Chicago. The trio, known for their pioneering work in the Detroit techno scene, will bring their unique blend of beats and political imagination to the iconic venue.
A Legacy of Resistance and Creativity
Robert Hood, along with Mills and Banks, founded Underground Resistance in 1989, creating a counterculture movement that aimed to empower Black communities through music. Inspired by Chicago’s house and industrial scenes, the group sought to reject mainstream techno culture’s commercialization and promote creativity and community strength instead. Hood’s career has since evolved, with ventures into various aliases, founding his label M-Plant, and exploring his faith as a born-again Christian.
