WNBA fans were disappointed to learn that two top shooters, Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu, will not be competing in the 3-point contest during the All-Star break. Clark, a rookie with the Indiana Fever, and Ionescu, a star with the New York Liberty, will not be part of the competition on Friday night.
Despite not participating in the 3-point contest, Caitlin Clark’s shooting skills have been impressive in the pros, as she ranks in the top 5 in the league for average 3-point field goals made. On the other hand, Ionescu is currently fourth in the league. Clark has made 71 3-pointers by the halfway mark of the season, tying with Arike Ogunbowale and Kelsey Plum, while Ionescu sits at no. 2 with 74.
Instead of Clark and Ionescu, the 3-point contest will feature players like Stefanie Dolson from the Washington Mystics, Jonquel Jones, the 2021 league MVP, Kayla McBride from the Minnesota Lynx, Allisha Gray from the Atlanta Dream, and Marina Mabrey from the Connecticut Sun. Dolson leads the league in 3-point field goal percentage, while McBride has made 76 3-pointers.
Although Clark and Ionescu will not be in the 3-point contest, Clark will still have the opportunity to showcase her skills in the All-Star Game as a member of Team WNBA. She will be facing off against the women’s Olympic basketball team on Saturday night. Despite expressing a desire to be in Paris during the month-long break, Clark recognizes the importance of rest for her body after playing basketball nonstop for almost a year.
While fans may be disappointed by the absence of Clark and Ionescu in the 3-point contest, they can still look forward to an exciting competition with other talented players.
